Rory O'Conner Live-blogging the Libby Trial

AlterNet columnist Rory O'Connor is live-blogging the trial of Dick Cheney's former #2, Scooter Libby.

In the latest, Former Bush spokesman, a "composed and articulate" Ari Fleischer, testified that he was told of Valerie Plame's identity by Scooter Libby at a lunch, days before Libby supposedly "learned" of the information from a reporter.

Whoops.

O'Connor documents Fleischer's testimony:

'I just remembered he said she worked at CIA, and in the counter-proliferation division,' Fleischer said. Libby told him it was 'hush-hush' information. In any event, Fleischer had never heard of Plame or her CIA status before. He was not told that the information was classified, or information that he could not use."

The defense's argument will focus on the fact that Fleischer has been given immunity for his testimony, attempting to chip away at his credibility.

Anticipating this, the prosecution got Fleischer to testify that his immunity only covered what he actually did with the information when he learned it. It would not cover a lie about said actions, which would still amount to perjury...

O'Connor's post concludes: "'What was the significance of Libby’s remark that Plame worked at CIA?' the prosecution asks. Before Fleischer can respond, the judge announces a break for lunch."

The Nazis, Fascists and Communists were political parties before they became enemies of liberty and mass murderers.
