Bush Judicial Appointee To Bankruptcy Court Gets Busted For DUI....

but that is by far not the funny part!

Total Drag: Bush Judge Appointee Resigns After DUI Arrest While Cross Dressing

That I find this story so hilarious probably says more about me than the cross-dressing federal judge in question, but as they say these days, it is what it is. The punch line is probably the best part. (It must say something about us too, because we find it fall-in-the-floor-funny.It was passed around the I.U grapevine before we decided to post it, since we normally don't post much about a person's personal life, no matter how strange, as long as it is not harmful to others (especially children) or hits the big score on the hypocrisy scale..

[Federal Judge Robert] Somma worked in private practice for years in Boston before he was appointed to the bench by President Bush in December 2004.

Oh fine, he had to be from Boston!

Yes, the fact that Bush appointed him as a federal bankruptcy judge does crack me up, but let’s start at the beginning.

Somma’s Mercedes-Benz E320 sedan hit a pick-up truck from behind about 11:29 p.m. on Feb. 6, the police report said. No one was hurt.

Somma, who lives in Newbury, Mass., fumbled in his purse for his driver’s license before handing it to the officer who later arrested him, the police report shows.

“He had a difficult time locating his license in his purse. He passed over it multiple times before removing it,” officer Paul J. Thompson wrote in his report.

The officer offered no other details with regard to the judge’s attire or accessories. Nor would representatives of the Manchester Police Department or the city solicitor’s office, which worked out the negotiated plea agreement with Somma’s lawyer…

But lots of other people did offer those details, of which Audrey Hepburn would have been proud.

When authorities removed him from the vehicle, they said he wore a black women’s cocktail dress, fishnet stockings and high heels.

Are they sure it wasn't Ann Coulter with a false drivers license? Wait, just took a good look at the picture...more like Bay Buchanan. It must be fun being a Republican, these days. 40 years ago, it was us who were having most of the fun (some of us went democrat, others remained independent, others went independent after Bobby was murdered, But we really seemed to have settled down and are the grown ups. How the hell did that happen?

But in his mug shot, the judge appears to be wearing blue eye shadow. Way to wreck a really chic look, Robert.

Perhaps he is going for a new look. Hey, who knows, it might catch on, with drag queens if not women in general, given who he is and all.

And where, you might ask, was the judge going that night dressed that way?

Somma told police he had been at the Breezeway Pub where he had one gin and tonic about two hours earlier, the police report reveals. He later said he drank two gin and tonics.

The Breezeway Pub, at 14 Pearl St., bills itself as “New Hampshire’s favorite gay and alternative bar,” according to its web site.

The arresting officer reported Somma smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech and fell backwards against the door frame while getting out of his car.

It's those g-damned spiked heels. They're more dangerous than alcohol.

The Boston-based judge chose the bar in question, according to local rumor, because his wife, Wendy, was out of town and no one knew him in New Hampshire. Sounds like Wendy is pretty cool, though.

“I suspect that he will not be interested in talking to anyone from the newspaper, and I’m his wife,” said a woman who answered the telephone at the judge’s home yesterday. She referred media calls to Gary H. Wente, chief administrative officer for the First Circuit Courts.

Somma showed his sense of style to the end. He phoned in his resignation from a vacation spot in the Caribbean. If I were him, I think I’d just stay there.

Good idea. Can we visit?

Bush's Poll Numbers; Crashing

Newsweek Poll: Bush Hits All-Time Low
MSNBC.com Marcus Mabry May 5, 2007 12:48 PM

It's hard to say which is worse news for Republicans: that George W. Bush now has the worst approval rating of an American president in a generation, or that he seems to be dragging every '08 Republican presidential candidate down with him.

But According to the new NEWSWEEK Poll, the public's approval of Bush has sunk to 28 percent, an all-time low for this president in our poll, and a point lower than Gallup recorded for his father at Bush Sr.'s nadir.

The last president to be this unpopular was Jimmy Carter who also scored a 28 percent approval in 1979. This remarkably low rating seems to be casting a dark shadow over the GOP's chances for victory in '08.

More Of The Same Bush Lies: Unfreakinbelievable!

This is such complete hogwash...it just kind of leaves one stuttering, at this late date.

Who still believes this garbage?

Whoever it is, needs to be studied!

Bush says al-Qaida is top enemy in Iraq
By BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer

President Bush on Wednesday declared al-Qaida "public enemy No. 1 in Iraq," placing increasing emphasis on the terror network forever associated with the deadliest attack in U.S. history.

The president also seemed to offer another definition of success in Iraq — not a lack of violence, but a livable level for citizens.

In a speech to construction contractors, Bush put a heavy focus on al-Qaida, which carried out the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. In doing so, he sought more bluntly to cast the unpopular Iraq war in terms that U.S. citizens could connect to their own lives.

"For America, the decision we face in Iraq is not whether we ought to take sides in a civil war, it's whether we stay in the fight against the same international terrorist network that attacked us on 9/11," Bush said. "I strongly believe it's in our national interest to stay in the fight."

On Capitol Hill and across the nation, support for the war has long eroded as sectarian bloodletting gripped Baghdad. In the eyes of Democratic lawmakers and much of the war-weary public, U.S. forces have been dragged into a civil war between Shiites and Sunnis.

"The recent attacks are not the revenge killings that some have called a civil war," Bush told the Associated General Contractors of America. "They are a systematic assault on the entire nation. Al-Qaida is public enemy No. 1 in Iraq."

The Bush administration dates the unleashing of sectarian violence to the 2006 bombing of a Shiite shrine in the town of Samarra north of Baghdad, which triggered reprisal attacks against Sunni mosques and clerics. But recently, Bush said Wednesday, al-Qaida's brutality has failed to provoke the sectarian reprisals that it wants.

U.S. military leaders say sectarian attacks in Baghdad have declined, but overall violence remains high.

Bush warned that "casualties are likely to stay high."

"Either we'll succeed, or we won't succeed," he said. "And the definition of success as I described is sectarian violence down. Success is not no violence. ... But success is a level of violence where the people feel comfortable about living their daily lives."

Before the November election, Bush insisted to the media that the United States was "absolutely winning" the war. In December, he said the United States was neither winning nor losing, then clarified that he meant the U.S. was not succeeding as fast as he wanted.

The White House has repeatedly characterized success as an Iraq that can govern, sustain and defend itself.

The president was not "stepping back" at all from that goal in his speech, Bush spokesman Tony Snow said later.

Asked if describing al-Qaida as the main enemy is more politically persuasive, Snow said: "The characterizations here are not part of a sales pitch. They're an attempt to try to reflect what's going on the ground."

Bush is Dangerous

"Bush is very dangerous, because he's an unguided missile, he's a rocket with no ability to be educated. You can't change what he wants to do. He can't deviate from his policy, and that's frightening when somebody has as much power as he does, and is as much a radical as he is, and is as committed to democracy -- whatever that means -- as he is in the Mideast. I really do believe that's what drives him. That doesn't mean he's not interested in oil. But I really think he thinks democracy is the answer." -- Seymour Hersh, when asked if Bush is worse than Nixon, Link

(We agree that Junior is dangerous in the extreme, but we don't think that Bush has so much as a clue what Democracy is. Besides, it isn't Democracy he is interested in so much as free markets for his pals and contributors to the Rethug Party and capitalism on steroids.)
