I'm afraid it is going to take more than a few elections of somebody from either major political party. We are an Empire now. That has to be stopped.
The cozy relationships between the military-industrial-security complex, financial institutions, etc. and the government spells death for any hope we might have of having a democracy. We certainly don't have one now. That whole mess must finally collapse and you can bet that the politicians of neither party have any interest in bringing about the collapse.
It's up to the people and it will require nothing less than a full-blown revolution, albeit without violence. It can be done. Not without great sacrifice by the people, but it can be done.
Vote with your money. Don't wait on Congress to cut off funding. Cut off your own funding of the most hideous beast ever to raise it's ugly head: The Military-industrial-complex, now the Military-Industrial-Security Complex.
Stop paying the protection racket. Stop paying for war crimes.
These are drastic times and call for drastic measures.
American Dissatisfaction and the Peaceful Grassroots Revolution, Part 2
In my previous diary, I intimated that we Americans should channel our dissatisfaction with our corrupt politicians into grassroots organizations and movements, and suggested the possibility that if we can "Save Darfur", we should be able to save our own country. Now in order to prevent disappointment, we should avoid getting our hopes up too high for the immediate recovery of democracy in the US.
Washington, DC has been the prime target of corporate fire for many years, so we should not expect to rebuild it in a day--or in a couple of years. What we need to do is start with small, simple choices and build up momentum gradually.
If only enough of us could begin summoning the courage to do this over the next couple of decades, presidential elections would grow very interesting. Imagine watching the news on election night 2008 and seeing the two top puppets each garner only 45 percent of the popular vote. Then imagine watching the report in 2012 and seeing the top two puppets attain only 40 percent each. It's up to us who we vote for, not the corporate-owned media. Let's begin the positive trend to independent voting now. At the very least, this will shake up the system and get the puppets nervous.
In recent months, numerous Americans have become fascinated with Texas representative Ron Paul--and rightly so. Here is a candidate free of ties to the powerful special interest groups; he is pro-life, opposes same-sex "marriage" and the Iraq war, intends to abolish the income tax, plans to fix the immigration problem, and would cut the stranglehold of big business over the federal government. To top it all off, Ron Paul exhibits the integrity that Americans thought Bush had in 2000.
Personally I disagree with Paul's idea that all foreign aid is unconstitutional. However, I would much rather see him president than Romney, Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Hillary, Obama, or Biden.
Let's not kid ourselves that Paul will win the Republican or Democratic nomination for the presidency in 2008. I do believe he could be nominated by a third party. But is Paul the only real option for America?

The Nazis, Fascists and Communists were political parties before they became enemies of liberty and mass murderers.
