Bobby Kennedy: Why am I thinking about this now?

Just read a post over at the Lantern, about Bobby Kennedy.... well sort of...

Actually, there is a link there that takes you to the original article. if you so desire, and we encourage it; a really good article.

But this isn't about the film so much, as it is about 'a time'...an era, or maybe the beginning of one...the birth of one.

There was always something about Bobby, wasn't there?

He was, in his time, called ruthless, especially, when protecting his brother, but also against bullies of the working poor and the helpless.

We saw Bobby evolve; my generation did. We were a part of his transformation

Jack was a comet, streaking across the sky at dawn, in a desert sky, for us.

We traveled with Bobby, in our own way. Many of us evolved with him; rapidly.... we tuned out with him...as he and we grieved.

Some of us called him out! We turned toward the only light we had known, besides the ones that had arisen over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, under the clouds of which we were born.

Fools, we still believed.....

We were and are the Gemini Generation...we're always of two minds, about damn near everything

Still, we see the sorry effect of that split in American consciousness, that began, really, in the 1800s.

The sad caricatures, of the hideous beginning of the end? Failed Hippie, Bill Clinton and yellow-backed skunk, GWB, stinking up the whole damn planet.

Clinton and Bush both exhibited a whole lot of self-preservation, back in the day. Hey, lots of folks tried. My guy friend, of the day, made it into the Alabama Air Guard, and no one had any pull. Of course, being a child of the middle-class, he never took his duties lightly, as that kind of irresponsibility, in protecting the very "Heart of Dixie" from the Pinkos, could land you in Nam.

Oh Christ, will we ever get honest?

Because if we don't, we are so screwed...

Anyone, who has more than three neurons firing, knows we cannot afford anything ,now, but authenticity, in our elected leadership, and to the degree we are capable, in oursleves.

Nothing less will do; our country is at stake.

Bobby was real to us. Nothing much has been since.
